Waterford Greenway

Waterford Greenway begins in Waterford City view the map to find the starting point the river suir when going by the river suir there is a a area for conservation where there are salmon, otters, lamprey and shad. Along the way you pass remains of an old red iron bridge and Thomas Meagher Bridge. Along the way you pass Waterford Institute of Technology Campus and Woodstown where there is a archaeological site of a 8th century viking settlement.

On this section of the greenway you can see four bay kilns which was used to burn lime when you pass killoteran you come to mount congreve gardens which is well worth a visit there is also a medieval castle ruins called Kilmeaden Castle also keep a eye out for Le Poer castle which is not to far from kilmeaden castle. part of the greenway runs near the waterford and suir valley railway. which runs for 8.5km.

On this longer section you will see the chimney tower of fairbrook mill which was a 18th century factory and there are also the gardens of fairbrook house that are near the greenway. You can also see the peaks of comeragh mountains and you pass see the kilmacthomas workhouse which you can visit as there is a cafe

In kilmacthomas you can get a weel earned rest and refreshments and there are some wonderful views of the viaduct it was built in 1878 for the railway which was owned by the great southern and western railway. as you continue on your jouney you will pass a massive ice age glacial erratic. As you continue on your journey you will come across scenic views and the comeragh mountains you will also have to cross the durrow viaduct over river tay. you will come to the ruins of durrow station.

On this part of the Waterford Greenway there is the Ballyvoyle Tunnel which is 400m long and there is also the viaduct at Ballyvoyle which is one of the main monuments on the waterford greenway there is also a view of Clonea Strand from the Greenway.

In Dungarvan there is a 13th century Dungarvan castle and is now an Office of Public Works heritage site
